Qualifications

To qualify for an initial appointment (4-year term) to the office of notary public in the State of StateName, one must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.

  • Be a legal resident of the State of StateName. (No certain length of time is required to establish residency).

  • Have no criminal convictions. (A criminal conviction is not an automatic denial to become a StateName notary public).

  • Submit an application to be appointed a notary public, and pay a $21 State appointment fee.

  • Obtain a surety bond in the amount of $10,000, available from The American Association of Notaries!
